The 2020 IDFA, which will be running online from November 18 to December 6, will be screening ‘The Snow Calls’ by Marjan Khosravi in the Student Documentary category along with ‘Shadegan’ by Ako Salemi in the Kids & Docs category.
‘The Snow Calls’ is about an expectant mother named Mina who has one last chance to deliver a boy after bearing three daughters, or her husband will marry another woman.
Mina decides not to have an ultrasound scan for fear of the result and the gossip that would ensue. She is already under enough pressure from her in-laws, although she does still have people on her side too.
Iranian cinema is a familiar name to the IDFA as in the 2019 edition of the event, Iranian director Mehrdad Oskoui succeeded to grab the best director award for his latest feature-length documentary ‘Sunless Shadows’.
‘Anticlockwise’ by Jalal Vafai as well as ‘Asho’ by Jafar Najafi from Iran were also praised at the 32nd edition of the IDFA.
The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam offers an independent and inspiring meeting place for audiences and professionals to see a diverse and high-quality program.
